English Tutoring for the Spanish Student
Though I wish I would have taken more photos of this university - for it is mixed of ancient and modern architecture, this is where I studied almost everything there is to know about the world of Spain. But, one of my most memorable times while studying at this university was when I had the privilege to tutor native students in English.
Whether it was for a drink, coffee, or a movie date, I met twice a week for an hour with two, native , female students from the university; and during the first half of our meeting, we would practice Spanish and the second half we would practice English. So how did I handle the English portion of this session?
Well, I would just let the student start talking about whatever topic we had started talking about in Spanish; and if I noticed that she was struggling with a word, phrase, or if she asked me, I would help her. But to be honest, I hardly had to help her for her English was exquisite. What she really wanted to work was her English slang - she really got a kick out of American slang.
Another English experience I had while studying in Spain was partaking in an actual English course at the university. Once a week an English class was taught by a British professor; and during the short time that I was a part of this class (due to professor swapping), I helped out the students during group conversation time. Once again, the majority of the class could speak English very well - the massive size of the class was also very inspiring.
