Semi - Colons!
Grades 7 - 12
In my grammar course, every student was responsible for teaching their small groups a particular grammatical aspect. Obviously, it was up to me to get my group up to speed on those tricky semi - colons. A Link to the actual file of this lesson can be found just underneath the photo below.

At the end of going over this semi - colon guide. I had my students practice with these two worksheets:

While I am not a huge fan of having my students learn grammar by just doing redundant worksheets, I believe that it is important to provide them with these repetitive exorcises in order to instill the main functions of the semi - colon (or for any grammatical concept for that matter). Of course, after seeing that my students are starting to get the hang of the semi - colon, I would start assigning the responsiblity of highlighting the correct or incorrect use of a semi - colon in another student's paper. In doing so, the editor would have to state why a particular use of a semi-colon works or doesn't work in a certain situation. Also, the teacher can use this as an improvement marker or one of his' or her's main requirements in their rubric.
